WelcomeThank you for visiting our microsite and showing an interest in the role of Director of Place Shaping and Enterprise.Enfield's certainly an exciting place to be at the moment. We are a '3 star' council and, as we narrowly missed out on '4 stars', we are determined to achieve this next time round. We've got some great achievements to build on including a 2 star rating from the Audit Commission for customer access, and teams from street cleaning, partnership working, customer service and learning difficulties services that have won national awards. But we are ambitious and we know we can be more efficient and effective. Our Leaner Programme, a 3 – 5 year strategy which aims to make sure that the organisation is fit for the future, is being implemented and its success is vital for our continued improvement. Our residents are at the centre of everything we do. We want to ensure that Enfield is a prosperous place in which communities can thrive. To achieve this, our services need to perform strongly on an individual basis and, in addition, to create strategic linkages across the Council and beyond, working with our delivery partners across the borough. Our radical Place Shaping Programme is a key component of this approach. Place shaping in Enfield is about people and places. It brings together many of the existing priorities and strategies of the Council and its partners and aims to ensure that together we focus our resources and energies on the things that will make the biggest difference to our communities and the people that want to invest in them. It will, initially, focus on four priority areas (Enfield Town Centre, New Southgate and the North Circular Road, North East Enfield – Ponders End and Central Leeside) that face more significant challenges than the borough as a whole and are areas where we feel that we can make the biggest difference and bring about physical and social transformation. The Council will work with partners from health, education, business, the voluntary and third sectors and developers to provide holistic approaches to improvement which are specifically designed to improve health, housing, education, employment, safety and prosperity. This does not mean that we will lose sight of the challenges and opportunities that exist across the rest of the borough. We will continue to develop plans and exploit opportunities to improve all our town centres. We will maintain the quality of the environment, building further opportunities for businesses and development. Using localised planning approaches we will ensure that all parts of the borough are able to benefit from place shaping. Place shaping will set the foundation for our work with local people to create places and communities that they want to live in, that offer them opportunities to find the housing they want, the education that meets their children's needs, a safe environment for their families, where neighbours get on well together and the opportunities to work and earn, securing a good quality of life. I hope that this microsite will give you an in sight into what it would be like to be part of this exciting agenda in Enfield. Please take time to have a look around this microsite and our main council website at www.enfield.gov.uk. If you like our vision and organisational values and feel that you have the skills, passion and commitment to become part of our team, we would very much like to hear from you.
